Captains' quarters  -  Fort Clatsop National Memorial, OR.  Lewis spent much of his time writing detailed accounts of their journey.  He could not report to President Jefferson the existence of a "Northwest Passage" water route to the Pacific, but he could describe some very good land/water routes.  Capt. Clark worked on his maps that, with Lewis' celestial observations, were remarkable for their accuracy.
